Visual Description: Portrait of Jan Nicquet, a merchant in Amsterdam, founder of the North Trading Company, and an enthusiastic art collector. With monogram "HG" (Hendrick Goltzius). Inscription at the top: "Non Nec Esta Questvi A. I. Nicquet". Just below, another inscription indicating his age at the time of the engraving: "AETAT SUAE. 56. An. 1595". Coat of arms in the upper right corner. Latin verses at the bottom: "Tu mea non vultum (...) hanc Nicquet".
Condition: Good condition. Short margins at the edge of the engraving mark.
Provenance: Engraving belonging to the art collection of Gaspar de Haro y Guzmán, 7th Marquis of Carpio and Elche (1629-1687), Spanish nobleman, diplomat, and politician. He was the son of fellow collector Luis de Haro, from whom he inherited a large repertoire of paintings, which he progressively expanded with high-quality works.
