Subject: Late 16th Century Woodcut. Engraving. Music - Christoph van Sichem II and Goltzius.
Publication: Circa 1590. After Hendrik Goltzius, engraved by C. Van Sichem. Inscription in the upper left corner: "HG. CV Sichem scalp et excub."
Measurements: 31 x 22 cm [image], 45 x 34 cm [paper], 38.6 x 49.8 cm [mat].
Technique: Woodcut print.
Description: A young man seated with his back to the viewer looks at the spectator while playing the clavichord, accompanied by four singers.
References: Illustrated Bartsch, Vol. III, p. 405; Hollstein, Vol. XXVII, p. 31.
Condition: Good condition. Short margins and stains on the edges from the adhesion method to the other page on which it is currently mounted.
Provenance: Engraving belonging to the art collection of Gaspar de Haro y Guzmán, 7th Marquis of Carpio and Eliche (1629 - 1687), a Spanish nobleman, diplomat, and politician. He was the son of fellow collector Luis de Haro, from whom he inherited a large repertoire of paintings that he progressively expanded with high-quality works.
