Other information: El Circo, published for the first time in 1917, is a monographic miscellany in which the author brings us closer to the world of the circus and through it to his conception of life and literature. In later editions it was expanded with other texts, such as the speech that Gómez de la Serna gave at the Great American Circus in Madrid in 1923 or a prologue by Julio Gómez de la Serna and illustrations by Ramón himself.
In this edition, published in Madrid in 2003 and of which only 210 copies were printed (copy 40/175), Álvaro Delgado enriches Gómez de la Serna's text with 14 engravings close to impressionism, full of luminosity and drama.
Biography of the author: Álvaro Delgado (1922-2016) was a painter and illustrator from Madrid who stood out for his strong mastery of the technique, in which the cubist structure, gestural value and the strength of color prevail. He is recognized for his thematic renewal, particularly that of the portrait genre, as well as for his strong personality within the expressionist currents. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando since 1973 and winner of numerous awards such as the National Fine Arts and Villa de Madrid gold medals.
