    Notes: According to Barrera y Leirado, “Un ingenio de esta Corte” is a pseudonym of the Spanish playwright José de Cañizares. By edict of February 11, 1804 it was included in the Index of banned books.

    José de Cañizares y Suárez de Toledo (Madrid; July 4, 1676 - Ibidem; September 4, 1750) was a Spanish post-baroque playwright, author of about eighty plays and creator of the eighteenth-century genre comedia de magia, as well as author of the greatest theatrical success of the eighteenth century in the same genre, El asombro de Francia, Marta la Romarantina (1716) and a fundamental zarzuela in the evolution of the genre, Acis y Galatea (1708).
