Joan Miró (1893-1983) was an influential Spanish painter, sculptor, engraver and ceramist, a key figure in 20th century art.
Born in Barcelona, he developed a unique and personal style, mainly associated with Surrealism, although he always maintained his creative independence. His work is characterized by: Biomorphic and abstract forms. A palette of vivid and primary colors. Dynamic and gestural lines. A symbolic and dreamlike universe of his own, with recurring motifs such as stars, eyes and figures.
Miró explored a wide variety of techniques throughout his career, including painting, sculpture, ceramics and engraving (especially lithography). His art is distinguished by its poetry, playfulness and connection to the subconscious, leaving a fundamental legacy in modern and contemporary art. He died in Palma de Mallorca in 1983.
