Physical description: Monumental edition of the Cantigas de Santa María, by Alfonso X the Wise, with the facsimile reproduction of the codex “rico” T.I.1 of the Library of El Escorial (Madrid), first half of the magnum opus of Alfonso X the Wise, begun around 1255. A capital work of European medieval lyric poetry. The most beautifully illustrated codex of all the Spanish Middle Ages. The most complete and original songbook of ancient popular music in the West. The first facsimile edition of the most significant work of Spanish art of the Middle Ages. With all the colorful and fine design of its 1,264 miniatures. It consists of two volumes, 35 x 50 cm format, bound in leather-covered board, according to the style created by the Flemish artist Pedro Bosch in the 16th century for the library of the Escorial. The first volume includes the complete facsimile, printed in 8 colors, including gold, of the codex T.I.1 of the Royal Library of El Escorial, in its exact size. There are 512 pages of parchment paper, specially made for this edition, with the text and music of 192 cantigas and 1,264 miniatures of Gothic art grouped in 212 of these pages.
