    Kono Bairei (1844-1895) was a renowned Japanese painter and book designer of the Meiji period. Known for his exquisite illustrations of flowers and birds, Bairei is considered one of the most influential masters of the “kacho-ga” (flower and bird paintings) style. His work is characterized by its delicacy, precision and vibrant depiction of nature.

    Bairei Hyakucho Gafu Zoko-hen is a continuation of his popular album of one hundred birds, offering a new collection of woodblock prints that capture the beauty and diversity of birdlife with unparalleled artistry. Each illustration is a testament to Bairei's keen observation and his ability to bring each feather and leaf to life.
