Biography of the author: Tomás Campuzano y Aguirre (Santander, January 5, 1857 - Madrid, August 9, 1934) was a Spanish painter, watercolorist and engraver, an enthusiast of plenary art, specialized in realistic landscape and marine themes. He was born into a family of the Santander bourgeoisie, son of Carlos Campuzano Watkins, and Amanda Aguirre. He is a pensioner in Vitoria, a law student in Madrid and a student at the special School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving in that capital. At the age of 22 he graduated and went to work in the Dirección General de Tesoro Público, a job that he abandoned three years later. He began to exhibit in 1880. He interacted with members of the artistic colony of Muros and travelled through Asturias, Galicia and Portugal. In 1886 he was included in the Spanish Commission that visited the works of the Panama Canal as a correspondent for La Ilustración Española y Americana. In 1893 he replaced Bartolomé Maura y Montaner as Administrator of the Calcografía Nacional (Madrid).

Notes: The edition under the title "Del Cantábrico. Colección de 24 aguafuertes originales" was printed at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Gráficas. According to Vega, this "is characterized by a careful artistic printing - all the prints are veiled and superficially cleaned with a warm bistre ink - a wove paper of an ivory-white tone was chosen; the result attests to the interest that was put into offer a quality work and at the same time show the good work of the printing workshops of the Calcografía Nacional".

Conservation: Very good condition. Very clean paper. Binding with loss in the lower corner of the spine and somewhat dirty.
