Conservation: Very clean and well preserved specimen with all its margins.
Notes: The last major series of prints made by Goya was Los Disparates, which was also called Los Proverbios. He began to prepare it in 1816, but it must have been left unfinished when he went to France in 1824, due to the return of absolutism, after the Liberal Triennium. For this reason, it was not published during the artist's lifetime. From the twenty-two plates that make up the series, eighteen were published in 1864 by the Real Academia of San Fernando and the remaining four were published in Paris in 1877.
Los Disparates are engravings that are difficult to understand due to their enigmatic images and lack of narrative logic. The order that Goya would have given them is unknown. As for the titles, only thirteen are originally known, thanks to state evidence, and all of them begin with the word nonsense. What apparently seem like playful and carnivalesque topics, acquire a dark air due to the drama of the night light. Most of the issues looked at in Los Disparates had already been addressed by Goya in Los Caprichos, but now he does it with a dramatic or grotesque sense.
