Biography of the author: Antonio Beato, also known as Antoine Beato, was a British photographer of Italian origin. He is known for his genre works, portraits and views of the architecture and landscapes of Egypt and other places in the Mediterranean region. He was the brother of Felice Beato, with whom he worked on occasion. Not much is known about Antonio Beato's origins; he was probably born in Venetian territory around 1825 and later naturalized as a British citizen. There is evidence that at least his brother was born in Corfu, which had been a Venetian possession until 1814, when it was acquired by the United Kingdom.
