    Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858): Seudónimo artístico de Andō Tokutarō, fue un pintor japonés, que perteneció a la Escuela Utagawa, una de las más reputadas del estilo ukiyo-e. Hiroshige fue uno de los principales exponentes del paisajismo japonés, llevando esta disciplina a un nivel artístico y de estilo de gran calidad. Las Cincuenta y Tres Estaciones de Tōkaidō son una serie de grabados de los alrededores de una carretera que conectaba la capital del shōgun con la capital imperial, que constituía una de las principales arterias del antiguo Japón. A partir de entonces se centró en los paisajes, realizados siempre en series sobre ciudades, lagos, rutas o naturaleza. Hiroshige consolidó el paisaje como género independiente y plasmó con poesía y sensibilidad todas las bellezas naturales de su país. Sus obras, caracterizadas por la suavidad, el lirismo y el detallismo atento, ejercieron en Occidente una gran influencia hasta el punto de que artistas impresionistas y post-impresionistas de la talla de Manet, Van Gogh, Monet, Degas o Cézanne quedaron maravillados con su obra. Finalmente, Utagawa Hiroshige falleció en Edo el 12 de octubre de 1858.
