Author's biography: Tomás de Iriarte (Puerto de la Cruz, 1750 - Madrid, 1791) was a Spanish writer.  Nephew of the academic Juan de Iriarte, at the age of thirteen he moved to Madrid to live with his uncle, the academic Juan de Iriarte, which allowed him to acquire a solid education. He succeeded his relative as translator of the Secretary of State and held the position of archivist of the War Council. He is considered, along with Félix María de Samaniego, one of the most important fabulists of the 18th century, since they created a new genre of didactic poetry: the literary Fable. These ingenious compositions, some of them masterful, had one of the greatest successes recorded in Castilian literature
